The main objectives of the Panchayat Samiti are to promote rural development and social justice by planning and implementing development programmes at the village level, monitoring the functioning of the Gram Panchayats and allocating resources for local infrastructure and welfare activities. The major functions are to approve the Gram Panchayat schemes, supervise the Gram Panchayats, prioritize the village level issues and implement various state and central government schemes for sectors like agriculture, health, water supply and social welfare.<\/p>\n
