About the department
The Maharashtra Government created the Social Welfare Department with the noble intention of promoting the educational and economic interests of the backward classes, especially the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, with special care and with the aim of protecting them from social injustice. Through this, the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Nomadic Tribes, Special Backward Classes and Other Backward Classes, the disabled and the weak, etc., up to the village level, can take advantage of educational, economic, social, personal and family benefit schemes, so that their standard of living can be improved and they can take advantage of all the facilities. In short, the main objective of the Social Welfare Department is to implement various schemes for the educational, social and economic development of the backward classes and weak sections of the society by including them in the process of social transformation.
