Panchayat Samiti plays an important role in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) or Maharashtra Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MREGS) at the taluka level. Panchayat Samiti performs functions such as determining the works under MREGS, implementing the scheme and guiding the Gram Panchayats, as well as giving approval for the works. This department is supported by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, which helps in achieving the overall objectives of these schemes.

The Gram Panchayat plans various works and prepares Gram Panchayat requisitions along with necessary documents. The Gram Sabha recommends the works and the Gram Panchayat approves and implements them. The Panchayat Samiti acts as a link in this process.
