Gram Panchayat Department

About the department

There are a total of 31 Gram Panchayats and 49 revenue villages in Vasai group. Various schemes at the Gram Panchayat level, implementation of development works within the Gram Panchayat, are done through the Gram Panchayat Department. The work of the Gram Panchayat Department is carried out as per the Maharashtra Gram Panchayat Act 1959. The department implements schemes for the development of the village and provides guidance and supervision to the Gram Panchayats. The Gram Panchayat is the basic administrative unit for the villages, while the Panchayat Samiti works at the Taluka level.

Task

The main functions of this department are to provide the necessary infrastructure for the village, implement village schemes, and monitor the functioning of the Gram Panchayats.

This department coordinates with the Gram Panchayats to reach the villages with the schemes of the Central and State Governments. The work of this department is to monitor the selection, implementation and monitoring of developmental schemes in the villages.
