Panchayat Samiti Vasai General Information
The Panchayat Samiti Vasai group was established on 01.05.1962 and the total area of the taluka is 53,962 hectares. A new district ‘Palghar’ was created on 1 August 2014 by separating some talukas of the erstwhile united Thane district. Vasai taluka has been included in Palghar district. There are 49 revenue villages and 31 gram panchayats in the Vasai group and the total population as per the 2011 census is 108712. Vasai has a beautiful coastline of the Arabian Sea to the west. Vasai Fort is a historical tourist destination here and there is a temple of Jivdani Mata at Virar to the east of Vasai. Arnala is a great fort among the sea forts. It is located in Arnala village in Vasai taluka. Arnala Fort is also known as ‘Jaldurg’ or ‘Zanjire Arnala’. Arnala has been under the control of many empires such as the Mughals, Marathas, Portuguese, and finally the Peshwas. Sultan Mahmud Begda originally built this fort in 1516 AD. There is no food but water is well available at the fort. The fort is rectangular in shape and is almost surrounded by water. There are many temples like Trimbakeshwar, Bhavani Mata, Kalika Mata and Mahadev. There are three entrances, one of which has large towers on both sides which is on the north side of the fort.
