“Koli” is a wild vegetable that grows naturally in Vasai and its surrounding areas during the monsoon. This vegetable is scientifically called Chlorophytum borivilianum and belongs to the Liliaceae family. Locally, it is also known as Kowali Bhaji or Safed Musli. Kowali Bhaji (Chlorophytum borivilianum) is a nutritious wild vegetable. It contains many nutrients, such as Vitamin-A, Vitamin-C, Calcium, Iron, Vitamin-B6 and Magnesium. This vegetable usually grows on the slopes of hills, in open areas or under the shade of big trees.

अंबाडी

Ambadi Bhaji, also known as wild vegetable, is a delicious and nutritious vegetable. It is found in abundance during the rainy season. The leaves of the yam are cooked and have a sour taste. Ambadi Bhaji contains many nutrients, such as vitamin C, iron, and calcium, which make it beneficial for health. The nutrients present in this vegetable help in boosting immunity. Ambadi Bhaji is considered good for digestion, so it is useful in overcoming problems like constipation.

Vasta

“Ranbhaji Vaste” means young bamboo shoots. This is a wild vegetable that is available during the monsoon. It is also called “Shind” or “Vastya”. These young shoots are made into a vegetable, and are also eaten by adding dal or gram or by cutting it and shallow frying it. Pickles are also made from it. During the monsoon, generally in the months of July-August, young bamboo shoots grow.

Alambi

Alambi (Mushroom) is very famous among wild vegetables. It grows naturally during the monsoon. It is also called Alambi or Bhuchatra. It is also sold as a vegetable in the market.

Alambi is a type of wild vegetable that grows naturally during the monsoon. It is known by various names in Marathi like Alambi, Bhuchatra, Kutchi Chhatri, Dhingri, Tekode, etc. During the monsoon, especially in the month of Shravan, it is found in the mountains and forests. Alambi is nutritious and tasty, so it is in great demand as a vegetable. Commercial production of Alambi is also done, but naturally occurring Alambi is in greater demand. In Palghar district, especially in tribal areas, Alambi (Alambi/Mushroom) is found in large quantities during the monsoon and is available for sale.

Kartoli

Wild Vegetable Kartoli (Kartoli), also known as Kartuli or Katule, is a vine vegetable that grows in the forests during the monsoon season. This vegetable has yellow flowers and is known for its medicinal properties. It grows naturally in the forests, on the slopes, on the banks of fields or on the edges of the forest during the monsoon season.

Classical name: Momordica dioica

Local names: Kartoli, Katule, Kartuli, Kartoli, Kantoli, Rankarli, Karkotki. Reduces the risk of infection. Reduces constipation. Helps reduce fat around the stomach. Flowers, leaves or stems are used to make a curry-like vegetable. Seed decoction is useful in dysentery. Flowers are useful in reducing heat in the liver and improving vision.

Dry

Bananas are commercially cultivated in the Vasai area and the ‘Rajelo’ banana variety is famous for its sweet taste and for making traditional sukeli. Apart from this, Vasai bananas are also used as Naivedya during Ganeshotsav. There is also an emphasis on value addition of banana production in this area.
